Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that information should be shared as much as possible in scientific research, business field and the academic world, while others argue that some information contains important details and valuable materials and should not be shared freely. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe crucial information regarding sciencific laboratories should be available under a certain amount, while basic academic and business knowledge could be shared freely.
On the one hand, some people believe it is good to share information on basic fields, including science, business and academic. This is because, individuals from any field can access information, which may help them to acquire knowledge and build critical-thinking abilities. The widely available information can help individuals to prospect in their careers. They could use this information in their thesis projects and prepare business meetings. For instance, individuals who are interested in research projects, they can use free information from google scholars, without experiencing financial burden. Furthermore, students in high schools and universities may get opportunities to excel academically, by obtaining valuable information from different sites, which often share free information.
On the other hand, I believe some information is too valuable to share freely. This is mainly because the professionals in science, business and academic world work very hard. They spent years in collecting data and put lifelong experience in their fields. Therefore, their experiences and information, especially on scientific research should not be shared freely, due to the fact their researches may contain important details on new technologies or scientific innovations. As a result, their hardwork should not be wasted, instead they should be paid and validate for their contributions.
In conclusion, a widely available information on certain fields might help people and students foster in their careers. However, I believe basic information should be shared to a certain extent, while valuable data should be shared under a certain amount.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a position: basic academic and business knowledge should be shared, while valuable scientific information should be restricted or compensated. The first body paragraph gives relevant benefits, such as helping people develop skills and supporting students’ studies, and the second explains why researchers may deserve recognition and payment. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction refers to scientific information being available “under a certain amount,” while the conclusion says valuable data should be shared “under a certain amount,” leaving the intended limits unclear. Some points also need fuller explanation—for example, how restricting access protects valuable research, or how a fair sharing system could work. Develop these ideas with a specific example and clarify your distinction between basic and sensitive information.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, links between individual claims are sometimes mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This is because” and “Therefore.” The conclusion also repeats the main ideas without resolving the unclear phrase “shared under a certain amount.” Improve progression by making each paragraph’s central claim explicit, then linking the explanation and example directly to it; use clearer references when moving from researchers’ effort to the question of access or payment.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “critical-thinking abilities,” “financial burden,” “scientific innovations,” and “valuable data.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more formal vocabulary are evident. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, which limits precision: “prospect in their careers” does not express the intended idea, “basic fields” is vague, and “paid and validate” uses an unsuitable form and pairing. There are also spelling errors in “sciencific” and “hardwork.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and check word forms and spelling. For instance, describe people as “advance in their careers,” and refer to “recognising and rewarding” researchers’ contributions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because,” and “which.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “a widely available information” uses an unnecessary article with an uncountable noun, while “individuals … they can use” creates a faulty construction after the introductory clause. “They spent years” also shifts tense from the surrounding present-tense discussion, and “due to the fact their researches may contain” needs a grammatical link after “fact.” Review article use, clause boundaries, and consistent tense, while continuing to practise complex sentences.
