Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce the topic and give a position—“the information should be shared in balanced manner”—and you begin to discuss both views. The examples of avoiding repeated scientific work and protecting military or private information are relevant. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the benefits are listed rather than explained, the opposing view is only briefly introduced, and your own opinion is not developed or supported. The essay also ends without a conclusion. The response contains 158 words, below the required 250; 21 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each view, clarify what information should or should not be shared, and support your balanced position with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph beginning “On the one hand,” and a contrasting paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” These markers help readers identify the two sides. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the response stops before completing the discussion or reaching a conclusion. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “however” following the first claim and “further” introducing another point without showing precisely how it relates. The opening also repeats the task wording rather than guiding the reader through your argument. Develop one main idea at a time, use linking phrases to show cause and contrast accurately, and add a concluding paragraph that restates your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “innovation,” “scientific research,” “GDP,” “military weapon,” and “defence system,” so the reader can identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “posible,” “belive,” “inportant,” and “discuvaries.” Some word combinations are also unnatural, such as “sharing information freely accelerate innovation” and “the businesses will got the chance.” Aim for more accurate collocations and a wider range of terms for discussing access, protection, and research outcomes. Proofreading spelling and choosing natural phrases will make your ideas easier to understand and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence explaining that sharing research can prevent repeated work. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “sharing information freely accelerate” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the businesses will got” combines an incorrect article and verb form. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “some information are too valuable.” Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are inconsistent. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and verb forms before adding more complex clauses.
