Student answer (Band 6.0)

Currently, It is being argued that while handing out your personal information to someone for research purpose is considered fair while few hesitate to share as they beleive that it can be mishandled or the required information is too sensitive.

On one hand, some people wants to contribute more and more for research purposes related to different fieldssuch as science and education. They not only devote their time but also provide any kind of information asked by the researcher and do not make any kind of excuses while sharing information whether it's too personal. They know that by providing useful information for a research work, a useful change can happen in the society. For instance in my country, the Punjab's Government recently launched home serveys to collect information about how many individuals of the same home earn livelihood and how many are dependant on them. Almost everyone was happily sharing their data and rarely anyone denied for paricipance because most of them knew that this will help government realise the need for job creation.

Contrarily, some people fear that if they provide information that is too sensitive will have negative consequences for them afterward. As some researches require detailed information about someone's personality, their family history, their financial data, etc. As i have been to such situation many times while signing up on any social media platform they require a lot of data regarding your interests, skills and future plans and most of the time I refuse to provide such data.

In the conclusion, I firmly believe that we should provide information for such purposes after verifying the authenticity of the researcher to protect data going in to wrong hands.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both perspectives and gives a clear personal view: you support sharing information when the researcher’s authenticity has been checked. The examples about the Punjab government’s household survey and refusing to provide data on social media make the discussion relevant and personal. However, the task concerns information in scientific research, business and academia, whereas the essay focuses mainly on personal data and research; business and academic information, including why valuable findings might be protected, are not explored. The benefits of sharing are also explained more fully than the reasons for restricting access. To strengthen the response, discuss both sides across the contexts named in the prompt and develop the risks and benefits with more precise explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion stating your position. The signposts “On one hand,” “Contrarily,” and “In the conclusion” help readers follow the progression, and the examples are placed with the relevant arguments. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical and the contrast between the two views could be made more explicit. The opening sentence is difficult to follow, and the paragraph beginning “As some researches require…” is a fragment rather than a complete supporting sentence. Improve cohesion by connecting each example directly to the claim it illustrates and using clearer referencing, so readers can readily identify what “this” or “such purposes” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “sensitive,” “financial data,” “researcher,” and “job creation,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, word choice and collocation are often imprecise, which limits the range and naturalness of the writing. Examples include “handing out your personal information,” “research purpose,” “home serveys,” and “provide any kind of information asked.” There are also spelling errors such as “beleive,” “paricipance,” and “fieldss,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions suited to the prompt, such as “share data,” “research purposes,” and “participate in a survey.” Proofreading spelling and choosing collocations carefully would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if they provide information that is too sensitive” and a relative clause in “information…that is too sensitive.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “some people wants” has subject–verb disagreement, while “As some researches require…” is an incomplete sentence. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure, and “how many individuals…earn livelihood” needs more accurate article and number patterns. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “i” and the long opening sentence. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; this will help you express complex ideas more reliably.
