Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued whether sharing information is good for the purpose of scientific research and the academic world while others believe do not share valuable information freely. I agree with the later statement because it is harmful to share information with others before reaching the desired goal as not everyone wants well-being or success of others.
As we all know that sharing not only help us to grow together but also help us to achieve success to be in a group. Sharing information allow us to gain knowledge from others point of views which ultimately leads to the best conclusion of a research by combining the logical idea of everyone. Furthermore, information that are shared by others help us to do our work with relaxation as sometimes it feels exhausted to collect all information without help of others. For example, students in undergraduates do their thesis in a group so that they can do a great research by sharing both ideas and choose the perfect methodology.
Some individuals prefer not to share valuable information without any cost because it leads to unwanted consequences such as some people take advantage by misusing the information. Information is an asset so it should keep private rather sharing with others since not everyone has the good intention as a result a person can take credit of others work by using their information such as copyright.
In conclusion, there is no doubt that sharing information is beneficial when there is a common goal of success among people but precious information must keep private without sharing with others freely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both perspectives and gives a clear opinion: you support keeping valuable information private, while acknowledging that sharing can improve research and learning. The examples about group thesis work and misuse of information are relevant to the topic. However, the discussion of the benefits is more developed than the case for protecting information, which is stated mainly as a risk of misuse and loss of credit. The opening claim that sharing is harmful before reaching a goal is also not fully explained or connected to the later points. To strengthen the response, develop the opposing view with a specific example, such as commercial confidentiality or sensitive research data, and explain when sharing should be limited and why.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for the benefits of sharing, one for concerns, and a conclusion that restates your position. This makes the overall line of argument understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by unclear links between ideas. For example, the opening sentence of the second paragraph moves from collective success to research conclusions without clearly showing how one leads to the other. Connectors such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help, but some transitions feel mechanical, and references such as “it” in “it should keep private” are not fully clear. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim, then link each example explicitly to that claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “valuable information,” “methodology,” “misusing,” and “copyright,” so the reader can follow the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “unwanted consequences.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the later statement” for “the latter view,” “do their work with relaxation,” and “take credit of others work.” Repetition of “sharing information” and “success” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise academic expressions and check common word partnerships; for instance, explain that information may be “exploited” or that researchers may “claim credit for another person’s work.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at complex sentences, for example, “Sharing information allow us to gain knowledge from others point of views which ultimately leads to the best conclusion.” This shows some range, and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places: “sharing not only help,” “information that are shared,” and “it should keep private” need grammatical correction. The opening also has an incomplete construction in “while others believe do not share valuable information freely.” These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas less clear. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and forming complete clauses, while retaining complex sentences only when their structure is controlled.
