Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowdays information plays an important role in scientific research business and education. Some people beleive that information should be shared freely, while other thinks that some information is too valuable to be sharred with everone in my opinion information should generally br shared but some confidential information should beprotected.

On the one hand sharing information have many advantages it helps people learn new things and, develop their skills and find solution to different problems. When scientists share their research other researchers can use their finding to develop new medecines and treatments. sharing medical research can help doctors find betters way s to treat serious disease. Similarly students can improve their knowledge by sharing ideas and study meterials. Therefore sharing information can benefit society as a whole.

On the other hand hand some people beleive that information should not be shared freely because it may be valuable and confidential. In the business world companies spend a lot of time and money developing new products. If they share all their business secrets with the other companies may copy their ideas as gain an unfair advantage.

In conclusion both views have valid points . Althogh sharing information can support education, scientific prigress and development. some valuable and confidental information needs protection. I beleive that information should be shared whenever possible , provided that privacy and security are not put at risk.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both perspectives and state a clear overall view: information should generally be shared, while confidential material should be protected. The examples about researchers developing medicines and businesses guarding product ideas are relevant. However, the discussion is brief and uneven: the benefits are explained in more detail, while the business argument is not fully developed—for example, you could explain the consequences of copying for innovation or investment. The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than extending it. The response is 24 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support your ideas. Add a specific example and explain each side more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from general benefits to business confidentiality is easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and punctuation makes some links unclear: the opening paragraph runs the opposing view and your opinion together without clear sentence boundaries. The second viewpoint also ends abruptly, so the argument does not progress as fully as the first. Use clearer sentence boundaries and add a linking explanation showing how the example supports your point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “scientific research,” “confidential,” “business secrets,” “treatments,” and “unfair advantage.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and some wording is imprecise or repetitive, such as repeated uses of “information” and “share.” Spelling errors—including “beleive,” “sharred,” “medecines,” and “confidental”—are noticeable and can distract the reader. Some phrases also need more natural collocation, such as “find solution to different problems” and “better ways to treat serious disease.” Build a wider set of accurate topic-specific phrases and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If they share all their business secrets … other companies may copy their ideas.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, sentence boundaries, articles, and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “sharing information have many advantages” needs subject–verb agreement, while “some people … other thinks” has an agreement error. The opening sentence also joins several clauses without appropriate punctuation, and the final paragraph contains sentence fragments after “Although.” These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise checking each sentence for a complete main clause, correct verb agreement, and clear punctuation.
