Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people agrue that it is good to share maximum information possible in scientific research, business and the education world because it helps other people to built further on these theories in future. Others argue that some important or valuable informations should not be shared freely as it can lead to misuse of that valuable information. I believe that a balanced approach of both is more suitable.

On the one hand, the information relating to the research should be shared because it helps other scientists or researchers to learn from those theories and even build a new one from the existing research. A research can help develop different aspects of scientific theories in future, which is why all the required information should be shared freely for scientists to work on it. For example, if a research does not contain the required information, other scientists will not able to write their research due to lack of information. To prevent this, organizations should share the necessary information, while keeping the important one secure.

On the other hand, important or valuable data should not be shared to everyone as it can lead to misuse of that information if fallen into wrong hands. The personal details of an individual or valuable insights of an organization can threaten privacy, security and financial interests. For example, sharing bank details of a person can trap them in a financial fraud, or leakage of confidential government data can lead to threat of national security. Therefore, restricting access to certain types of information is necessary to protect individuals and organizations.

In conclusion, I believe that a balances of both can be implemented by sharing only the necessary information and restricting access to personal or confidential details.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear position: “a balanced approach of both is more suitable.” The response gives relevant support, including the value of research for future work and the risks of exposing bank or government information. This meets the task well, but the two sides are not developed equally in depth. The research argument is explained mainly through the general point that scientists need information, while the business and academic contexts in the prompt receive little separate consideration. Your conclusion restates a sensible position, but does not add much detail about how the balance should work. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely what information should be open, who should have access to restricted material, and why those boundaries are appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the discussion’s direction explicit. Examples are placed alongside the relevant claims, helping the reader understand the reasoning. Some linking is a little mechanical, and the repeated use of “information” and “research” makes parts of the discussion less fluid. The final sentence also repeats the central idea rather than drawing together the two arguments in a more specific way. For stronger cohesion, use clearer references or varied phrasing and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “misuse,” “confidential,” “privacy,” “financial interests,” and “national security.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the examples suit the topic. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “share maximum information possible,” “build a new one,” and “a balances of both.” There is also a spelling error in “agrue,” and “informations” is an incorrect plural form. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to use more idiomatic academic phrasing, and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, refer to “a balanced approach” and “build on existing findings.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses with “because,” “as,” and “if,” and most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. The sentence beginning “The personal details of an individual…” is a good example of a controlled complex structure. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “it helps other people to built” should use the base form after “to,” and “other scientists will not able to write” is missing “be.” In “if fallen into wrong hands,” the conditional construction is incomplete; a clearer form would be “if it falls into the wrong hands.” The final sentence also has an agreement/form error in “a balances.” More consistent control of verb patterns, articles, and conditional clauses would improve accuracy.
