Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate about whether sharing too much details about scientific research, business and academia world. While some people believe that sharing knowledge benefits individuals and society as a whole , others argue that certain informations are too valuable to be publically available. In my opinion information should be shared but valuable informations are not to be shared instead they should be protected.

On the other hand sharing information can help evolution a lot, it can help invent more advanced technologies for medical field, make daily life more easier. When scientists reveal their work it will be helpful to other researchers to continue their work instead of repeating the same thing. For example if there is a disease outbreak instead of every scientist trying to find the medicine, if all scientists share their work it will be easier, faster and reliable medicine.Sharing knowledge helps students benefit from freely accessible academic resouces, allowing them to expand their knowledge regardless of their finanacial circumstances.

However sharing every information to the public is not always a good idea because this will limit business for example if some business man makes a great innovation, which will cause others to copy him and that will discourage him to create anything in the future. Moreover, sharing every information puts a threat to people security and their private life

In conclusion, sharing information is beneficial in many ways but it also has it's own disadvantages. There should be a limit to which informations are to be shared publically and which should not be shared publically . The best approach is to not share sensitive informaton which might bring harm to others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a position: information should generally be shared, while sensitive material should be protected. The benefits paragraph gives relevant examples, including researchers building on one another’s work during a disease outbreak and students accessing academic resources. You also explain why businesses may want to protect innovations. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed: the claim that sharing “puts a threat to people security and their private life” is not explained with a specific example, and the distinction between valuable information and sensitive information remains unclear. Develop this distinction and explain more precisely when protection is justified to make your response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the benefits and risks, and a conclusion. The contrast signposts “On the other hand” and “However” help readers follow the two views, and the examples generally sit with the relevant argument. Progression is less clear within some sentences, particularly the long disease-outbreak example, where the repeated “if” clauses make the point difficult to track. The conclusion repeats the general position but does not clearly resolve how to balance openness with protection. Use clearer sentence boundaries, connect each example explicitly to its claim, and make the final paragraph state a more precise principle for deciding what should be shared.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “advanced technologies,” “innovation,” “academic resources,” and “sensitive information,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “disease outbreak” and “financial circumstances.” However, several word-choice, form, and spelling errors reduce precision: “too much details,” “informations,” “publically,” “resouces,” and “finanacial.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “help evolution a lot” and “make daily life more easier.” Build accuracy by checking countable and uncountable nouns, spelling, and common collocations, and choose more precise terms when discussing commercial or personal risks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional example beginning “if there is a disease outbreak” and a relative clause describing an innovation. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems make sentences less controlled. For example, “whether sharing too much details” is an incomplete construction, and the disease-outbreak sentence contains several clauses joined without clear punctuation. The opening also has a sentence fragment after “While,” while “There should be a limit to which informations are to be shared” has an awkward clause structure. Practise complete sentence patterns, clause boundaries, and consistent punctuation; these changes would make your reasoning easier to follow.
