Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some individuals argue that it is good to share data as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Othres believe that some information is too crucial or too valuable to be shared freely. I will discuss both views.I believe that both are reasonable.
On the one hand, There are various reasons why it is benegicial to share as much data as possible in scientific reserach. Firsly, scientists can build on each other's reserach. sharing data can lead to discoveries. For example, medical research sharing information to develop treatments.Secondly, students and reserchers can access valuable knoweldge. developing countries can benefit from shared academic information. This reduce the gap between rich and poor countries.
On the other hand, I agree with those who believe that some data is too crucial or too valuable to be shared freely. Companies spend huge amount of money developing products. If competitors get their information for free they may cope it. this could reduce innovation and ficancial motivation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You introduce both viewpoints and state, “I believe that both are reasonable,” then give relevant reasons: shared research can support discoveries and help developing countries, while freely shared company information may be copied by competitors. However, the response addresses the task only partially because your position is not fully explained and the ideas are very briefly supported. The second view is not balanced with a developed discussion of why valuable information might still be shared, and there is no conclusion to clarify your final opinion. The response contains 153 words, which is 97 words below the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop each argument with explanation or a specific example, and add a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction is followed by one paragraph for each view, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion. This clear paragraph structure supports the main progression. However, the development stops abruptly after the point about companies, so the essay lacks a concluding paragraph and does not bring the discussion to a clear close. Some links between ideas are also mechanical or unclear: “For example, medical research sharing information to develop treatments” does not form a clear example, and “This reduce the gap” has an unclear reference. Use complete explanatory links between claims and examples, and finish by restating your considered position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “scientific research,” “valuable knowledge,” “develop treatments,” “competitors,” and “innovation.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there is some attempt to use topic-specific language. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “Othres,” “benegicial,” “reserach,” “cope it,” and “ficancial.” Repetition of “data,” “information,” and “share” also makes the expression less flexible. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose more precise collocations—for example, competitors may “copy” or “replicate” a product rather than “cope” it. A wider range of accurate phrases would help express the arguments more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, particularly the conditional sentence “If competitors get their information for free they may cope it,” and most of the basic message can be understood. However, the range remains limited, with many short statements and fragments rather than varied, controlled sentences. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation problems: “medical research sharing information to develop treatments” is not a complete sentence, “This reduce the gap” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “Companies spend huge amount” is missing an article. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “sharing data” after a full stop and “this could reduce.” Practise complete sentences, accurate agreement and articles, and consistent punctuation.
