Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no denying the fact that having a wide range of information can be a powerfull weapon to its owner. While it is a commonly held belief that sharing as much information as possible in different fields like scientific research, business and the academic world can be a good thing, there is also and argument that some information can't be shared for free because it is too important or too valuable. This essay will analyse this topic from both points of view and express my opinion.

On one hand, sharing knowledge with other people can be good for people because they can share and discuss their interests and also give the opportunity to anyone to be involved and not restricted to some indivisuals. In addition, discussing and debating informations can led to learn and discover new things. For example, sharing scientific research can encourage other scientists to work on finding new things depending on the shared knowledge.

On the other hand, some information is too important and valuable and also could be dangerous. It is also possible to say that sharing too much information can be a bad thing such as secret government informations that shouldn't be shared with other governments. Moreover, some people tend to sell their valuable knowledge instead of sharing it for free. For instance, indivisuals who spent much of their time and worked so hard to reach some usefull informations.

In conclusion, there are no easy answers to this question. On balance, however, I tend to believe that sharing as much usefull and safe information and knowledge with others can be a very good thing and can offer a wide range of benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both perspectives and give a clear overall view: sharing information is beneficial when it is useful and safe. The examples of scientific research and government secrets are relevant, and the conclusion reinforces your position. This fits the task well, although the two sides are not developed equally in depth. The benefits of open research are explained through collaboration and further discoveries, but the opposing view is mostly asserted: the point about people selling knowledge would be stronger with an explanation of intellectual property, investment, or commercial incentives. Develop each main idea with a clearer reason and a specific consequence or example so the discussion feels more balanced and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of sharing to the risks and then to your own position is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal this structure, and the final paragraph gives a consistent answer. To move beyond this level, make connections between individual claims more precise rather than relying mainly on standard paragraph openers. For example, explain how the example of scientists sharing research supports the preceding point about wider participation. Some sentences also contain several related ideas without clear internal links, so use clearer referencing and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “valuable,” “debating,” and “government information,” and your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “On balance” and “there are no easy answers.” However, several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision, including “powerfull,” “indivisuals,” “usefull,” and “informations.” Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, such as “new things” and “some information is too important and valuable.” Choose more precise academic expressions and check spelling and countability. For instance, “new discoveries” is more specific than “new things,” while “information” is normally uncountable in English.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the opening (“While it is a commonly held belief…”) and a relative clause in “individuals who spent much of their time…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical problems remain, however. In “discussing and debating informations can led to learn,” the verb form and sentence construction are faulty; a clearer version is “discussing and debating information can lead people to learn.” The phrase “there is also and argument” also has an article error, and “give the opportunity to anyone” needs a more complete grammatical pattern. Review verb forms, articles, and how infinitives are constructed, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
