Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have conficting views on the idea of sharing information especially in the academic, scientific research and business empires. A part of the population believe that sharing as much information as possible is benefical for the for the advancement of any particular field while the remainder is utterly against this point of view.

To begin with, there is no denying the fact that sharing information is an excellant idea for the development of research in any specific field. Sharing information drastically reduces the time of research compared to someone doing it form scratch. It provides the new researchers with a groundwork to perform on increasing the efficiency and reducing stress and workload. Though, it is highly possible that sharing information could be detrimental to the original researcher if the due recognition is not conferred to him or his idea and research were plagiarised.

Similarly, people's negative stance on sharing information, considering it being too important or valuable to be shared freely is completely correct on their end. They understand the possible disasters that could occur if the researchers initiated sharing knowledge they had gathered through hard work. Consequently, they opt for an exchange of information or selling the rights to the concerned person.

Understanding both views, it can be concluded that both are right on one end while being rough at the other end. Taking a balanced approach could drastically help in efficient advancement of research and development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both perspectives and give a concluding view, so the response is relevant to the prompt. The first body paragraph explains how sharing can save research time and reduce workload, while also noting the risk of plagiarism. However, the opposing view is only briefly described: the claim that valuable information may be withheld is not supported with a concrete example or a clear explanation of what makes it too valuable to share. Your own position—“Taking a balanced approach”—is stated, but the essay does not explain what that balance would involve. The response is also 12 words below the required minimum. Develop each side more fully and clarify your position with a specific example or practical principle.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Similarly,” and “Consequently” help signal the progression, and the ideas are generally easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. “Similarly” does not clearly show the contrast between the second view and the first, and “both are right on one end while being rough at the other end” is difficult to interpret. The conclusion also introduces a balanced approach without showing how it follows from the preceding discussion. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “advancement,” “detrimental,” “recognition,” and “plagiarised.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several spelling errors, including “conficting,” “benefical,” “excellant,” and “form,” which reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “business empires” is not a natural way to refer to the business world, and “rough at the other end” does not clearly express the intended limitation. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, especially when stating your central argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause in “if the due recognition is not conferred” and a participial phrase in “considering it being too important or valuable.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical choices are awkward or inaccurate. For example, “A part of the population believe” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “the researchers initiated sharing” uses an unsuitable verb form in context. The phrase “considering it being” is also structurally awkward. Review agreement with singular subjects and practise forming clauses with “considering that” or “because.” More consistently controlled complex sentences would make the argument clearer.
