Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the topic and gives a clear personal view: “information should be shared with the public.” However, it does not meaningfully discuss both sides of the question. The claim that some information should remain confidential is only briefly mentioned, with no explanation or example, and the argument for sharing is also not developed. The response ends mid-sentence at “extra knowledge for prograss t,” so there is no completed reasoning or conclusion. It also falls substantially short of the required 250 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, explain why open sharing benefits research or society, then discuss valid reasons for protecting valuable information, such as privacy or commercial confidentiality, before stating and supporting your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces contrasting views and a personal opinion, followed by “First of all” to begin a supporting point. This gives the reader a limited sense of direction. However, the response stops almost immediately, and the unfinished phrase “extra knowledge for prograss t” prevents the first body point from becoming a complete idea. There is no developed progression between arguments, paragraph structure, or concluding summary. The transition “while others think” also follows a full stop and is not integrated smoothly. Build a clear sequence with separate paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and use linking phrases to show how each point relates to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “business,” “academic world,” “confidential,” and “shared with the public.” These choices make the general subject understandable. However, the range is very limited because the response is so brief, and several spelling errors weaken control: “benificial,” “busniess,” “acadimic,” “confidintial,” “limition,” and “prograss.” Some phrasing is also imprecise, such as “most of information” and “keeps people update.” Aim to use accurate collocations and a wider range of terms for the two sides, such as “disseminate findings,” “protect intellectual property,” and “restrict access to sensitive data.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your meaning more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few sentence patterns, including a contrast between “Many people agree…” and “while others think…” and a reason introduced by “because.” The main ideas in the opening are generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “some of the information should be keep confidential” needs a passive form (“should be kept”), and “it keeps people update” needs an object complement such as “keeps people updated.” The sentence beginning “while others” is also incorrectly separated after a full stop, and “i” should be capitalised. The unfinished final phrase provides no evidence of a complete structure. Practise accurate passive constructions and complete sentences, then proofread punctuation and capitalisation.
