Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the maps, such as the new dual carriageway, the pedestrian-only path, and the addition of new housing. You also made relevant comparisons between the current and future states. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the most significant changes effectively. While you mention that a 'positive development is observed', this is subjective and not based on the visual data. To improve, focus on describing the spatial changes more precisely—for instance, noting that the town centre is shifting or expanding. Some details, like the location of the countryside, are mentioned but not clearly linked to the development plan.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the current state to the future plan. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Nevertheless' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For example, starting multiple sentences with 'Moreover' or 'Furthermore' limits the flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for instance, 'throughout the map in the north' is slightly confusing as a description of a shopping centre. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the map, using terms like 'dual carriageway', 'pedestrian-only path', and 'renovated plan'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'centre of attraction' is not the most appropriate phrase for describing town infrastructure, and 'cursory glance at the table' is incorrect as the prompt provides maps, not a table. Additionally, 'whole road map is reconstructed' is slightly unnatural; 'the entire road network is being redesigned' would be more precise. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific geographical and planning-related terminology would help reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in present', 'in the north east'), and some awkward phrasing like 'Further looking at the planned map'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when describing locations. Attempting more varied complex sentence structures, such as using passive voice to describe the construction of buildings, would also demonstrate better control.
