Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the new dual carriageway, the relocation of shops, and the addition of new facilities like the bus station and housing. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main changes are identified, the spatial relationships are occasionally confusing (e.g., 'west north side'). The response would benefit from more precise comparisons between the current and future states to better highlight the extent of the transformation. Overall, it addresses the requirements of the task but lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into an introduction, a body paragraph, and a conclusion. While there is a logical flow, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'If we look at both maps', 'In addition', 'Furthermore'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact location of the proposed changes. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is quite dense and would benefit from being split to separate the road/housing changes from the new facilities.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors ('compelety', 'Futhermore') and awkward phrasing ('sightily down', 'remain on its position'). The range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptors, and there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or topic-specific language to describe urban planning changes. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise verbs and adjectives to describe spatial changes and development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('maps shows', 'school will be remain'), incorrect preposition usage, and missing articles. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and sentence construction.
