Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the current layout and the proposed developments. You successfully identify key changes such as the new bus station, car park, and road infrastructure. However, the description of the 'shopping centre' is slightly inaccurate as the map shows a new shopping centre replacing the old shops, rather than just an addition. To improve, ensure you precisely describe the spatial changes (e.g., what is being demolished versus what is being added). The overview is present but could be more integrated to better highlight the transformation of the town from a basic residential area to a more developed commercial hub.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction to an overview and then into specific details. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive (e.g., 'Over the period of time', 'Morever'). Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother flow between the description of current facilities and future plans would help elevate the score. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the town's development.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proposed development', 'infrastructure', and 'modern town centre'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'steet', 'xpensive', and 'dual carrieageway'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'at now' or 'passing of disabled person'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of technical terms related to urban planning. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'Islip town centre at now has', 'that have all modern buildings', and missing articles (e.g., 'in coming future'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage need more attention. While you attempt complex sentences, they are often marred by these minor errors. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining sentence structure will help improve your control over complex forms.
