Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features of the maps, such as the conversion of shops and the addition of a bus station and housing, the analysis is underdeveloped. You have not provided enough detail or comparisons to fully address the task. The overview is present but lacks sufficient detail to be considered a clear summary of the main trends. To improve, you must expand your description of the changes and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full development of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the brevity of the content. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Moving ahead', the transitions between sentences feel mechanical and sometimes disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the paragraphing is somewhat erratic. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall summary of the map changes.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'changed', 'rebuilt', and 'established'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'Fleeting a glance' (which is an incorrect idiom) and 'resident purpose'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to urban planning and map description, such as 'transformed', 'pedestrianised', 'demolished', or 'redeveloped'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey the information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the small town Islip'), verb tense consistency ('shops are converted' vs 'shops will set up'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to follow. For example, 'The size of the park will be small of built new housing' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using a wider range of complex structures accurately to improve your score.
