Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the removal of the main road and the addition of a bus station and shopping center. However, the description is somewhat inaccurate and confusing. For example, stating that the main road will be 'erased' and that housing will be 'destroyed' in the west is a misinterpretation of the visual data. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical issues. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in describing the spatial changes prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The information is presented, but the development of ideas is hindered by unclear expression.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'At fleeting glance' and 'Moving further in plan of development'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes being described. The transition between the description of the current state and the future plans is abrupt. While there is an attempt at organization, the lack of smooth flow and the repetitive nature of some sentences limit the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'redeveloped' used incorrectly for roads, 'main road will setup', and 'at the of bottom of town'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use more precise terms to describe urban planning features (e.g., 'erased' instead of 'removed' or 'demolished'). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word choice indicate a limited range of lexical resources suitable for an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with article usage ('a information', 'the west of town'), subject-verb agreement ('road and shops will redeveloped'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, such as 'now seen that at the top of town shops will be opposite to the both side of main road'. The high frequency of errors in basic grammar significantly impacts the overall quality of the writing.
