Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the dual carriageway, the new housing, and the pedestrian area. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main changes are identified, the spatial relationships are occasionally confusing, such as the description of the housing shifts. The response would benefit from a more precise summary of the overall transformation rather than just listing changes. The overview provided is a bit vague and does not fully capture the extent of the town's development. To improve, ensure that the main trends are clearly highlighted in the introduction and that the comparison between the 'now' and 'future' states is more structured.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often awkward or incorrect, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'Moving Ahead'. These phrases do not function naturally as transition markers. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which specific area of the map is being discussed. The logical progression is present but feels disjointed due to the repetitive sentence structure and the lack of sophisticated linking words. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices will significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'advancements to dual carriageway' instead of 'is converted into a dual carriageway' and 'unwanted space' instead of 'vacant land'. The phrasing 'developments take place' is used multiple times, which reduces the lexical variety. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more accurate verbs and nouns related to urban planning and map description, and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, articles, and sentence structure. For example, 'The Given pair of map depicts' should be 'The given pair of maps depicts', and 'shops are demolished for introduced' should be 'shops are demolished to introduce'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences often contain errors that hinder clarity. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and punctuation is occasionally misused. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct tense usage for describing future plans, and reducing the frequency of errors that distract the reader.
