Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the dual carriageway, the pedestrianization of the main road, and the new housing developments. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes, such as the overall expansion of residential areas and the shift in traffic flow. While the key features are identified, the description of the southern part is slightly repetitive, and some details, such as the specific location of the new housing relative to the park, could be more precisely articulated to fully meet the requirements of a Band 7 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the northern and southern areas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall progression of information. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes effectively. Terms like 'dual carriageway', 'pedestrianized', and 'residential area' are used correctly. However, there is a lack of variety in the language used to describe change; phrases like 'is been constructed' and 'remains same' are repeated. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise verbs and synonyms for development, such as 'transformed', 'converted', or 'expanded', and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and passive voice constructions. For example, 'The maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'New housing is been constructed' (incorrect passive form), and 'park size is been reduced' (incorrect passive form). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. A wider range of error-free complex structures is needed to move into the higher bands.
