Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the pedestrianization of the main road and the addition of new facilities. However, the overview is somewhat vague, referring to 'common men' which is irrelevant to the task. While the main features are reported, the comparison between the present and future layouts could be more precise. For instance, the description of the new housing and amenities lacks specific detail regarding their placement relative to existing structures. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the shift toward a pedestrian-friendly town centre, rather than listing minor details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs covering the present and future layouts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as the phrase 'But in case of projected development'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when describing the location of the new facilities. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, which affects the overall flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas between sentences is smoother and more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the changes described. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'common men' and 'road is separated towards South direction'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic descriptors like 'constructed' and 'layout'. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to urban planning, such as 'infrastructure', 'pedestrianized zone', 'amenities', or 'residential development', and ensure that collocations are used correctly to convey information more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the center', 'the Southern direction') and preposition usage. Some sentences are awkwardly constructed, such as '8 shops were constructed just above and below the main road', which lacks clarity regarding the spatial arrangement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
