Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, including the current layout and the proposed developments. However, the description of the changes is somewhat fragmented. While you mention the dual carriageway and new facilities, the comparison between the 'now' and 'future' states lacks precision. For instance, you mention 'new accommodation facilities' but do not specify their location clearly in relation to the existing housing. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clearer overview of the most significant changes and use more precise directional language to help the reader visualize the transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. Phrases like 'To commence with' and 'Moving on further to' are used, but the internal logic within paragraphs is weak. For example, the transition between describing the current town and the future plan is abrupt. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To conclude, now there are only few facilities available.' Improving the flow between sentences using more varied linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'some' and 'new facilities' repeatedly. There is an attempt to use specific terms like 'dual carriageway' and 'pedestrian only', which is good. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'there re some housing facilities available' (typo) and 'organized in Islip town center'. To improve, focus on using more descriptive verbs and nouns related to urban planning, such as 'transformed', 'relocated', or 'residential zones'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'there are two ways to enter the town one in the East and other one in West' (missing articles and prepositions) and 'there are new facilities will be provided' (incorrect verb structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage.
