Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying the key changes such as the introduction of a dual carriageway and the transformation of the northern area. However, the summary is somewhat hindered by inaccuracies in describing the current layout; for instance, the claim that the park remains unchanged is contradicted by the map, which shows the park being replaced by a new housing area. While the overview is present, it lacks precision. To improve, ensure that the description of the 'before' and 'after' states is factually aligned with the visual data provided, and focus on highlighting the most significant spatial changes rather than listing every minor detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the current state to the future plans. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'meanwhile, school is at sought side moreover parking at east'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the spatial relationships between the buildings. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that transitions between sentences are smooth and logical, rather than relying on repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'predicated to change' (likely meant 'predicted') and 'remain same' are used repeatedly. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'sought side' (likely meant 'south side') and 'countryside shops'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles with accurate collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology for describing urban development, such as 'redeveloped', 'transformed', 'demolished', or 'integrated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The current Islip town have facility', 'opposite shops is predicated to change') and incorrect preposition usage ('at sought side'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
