IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given maps compare the present layout of Islip, a small town with the planned development ones.

Overall, it can be clearly inferred that Islip would undergo a significant number of infrastructural development, especially in terms of number of roads and accommodations.

To begin with, a dual carriage way is planned to be constructed around the city. The number of shops and countryside area on the north of the town would be replaced by bus station, a comparatively large shopping centre, cark park and new housing, which would be connected by a slip road to the dual carriageway. The main road would be only for pedestrains with the shops lined on the either side, remained unaffected.

Although the park will remain on the same location, that is, in the south east corner, its area will be reduced considerably and will replaced by new houses. The accommodation and school in the west will be almost unchanged with a slight extension in the school.
