Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the introduction of the dual carriageway and the relocation of housing. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. While you identify the changes, you could improve by using more precise comparative language to highlight the transformation of the town centre. The summary is clear, but the overview could be more distinct to better highlight the overall trend of the development. You have successfully identified the key features, but the report lacks a clear, cohesive overview paragraph that synthesizes the main changes before detailing the specifics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. Many sentences are linked in a mechanical way, and there is a lack of transition words to guide the reader through the comparison (e.g., 'in contrast', 'whereas', 'subsequently'). The flow between the current state and the future plan could be smoother. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of varied linking words makes the text feel slightly disjointed in places.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision expected for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'proper arrangement', 'practical features', and 'unplanned park'. To improve, you should incorporate more specific vocabulary related to town planning, such as 'infrastructure', 'pedestrianized zones', 'residential expansion', or 'reconfiguration'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'future planning for develpoment' (should be 'future development plans') and 'gives forms a dual carriageway' (should be 'features a dual carriageway').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the clarity of the message. For example, 'what are the future planning' is grammatically incorrect, as is 'Houses are are rearranged'. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences in the second paragraph. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors would significantly improve your score.
