Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying key changes, such as the removal of the main road and the addition of housing and facilities. However, the description is somewhat generic and lacks precise reference to the spatial layout provided in the maps. For instance, it mentions 'housing scheme' and 'park' but fails to clearly contrast the 'now' and 'future' states with specific detail. The overview is missing, which is a critical requirement for Task 1. The response focuses more on interpreting the purpose of the changes rather than objectively reporting the visual data. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the main trends and use specific directional or locational language to describe the changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is written as a single block of text, which significantly hinders coherence. Paragraphing is essential in IELTS writing to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'In nutshell', their usage is sometimes mechanical or slightly misused. The progression of ideas is occasionally difficult to follow because the information is not grouped logically. To reach a higher band, you must use clear paragraph breaks and ensure that each paragraph has a distinct focus, such as one for the current layout and one for the proposed developments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'devolopment', 'eleminated', 'pedistrians', 'designd', 'strcture', 'residence', 'precatious', and 'properity'. These errors, combined with awkward collocations like 'daily life accessories' and 'easy convenience', occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While there is an attempt to use topic-specific language, the lack of precision and the frequency of spelling mistakes limit the score. Focusing on accurate spelling and learning common collocations related to urban planning (e.g., 'pedestrianised zone', 'residential area', 'infrastructure') would greatly enhance your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the' is often missing), subject-verb agreement ('housing scheme will divide'), and sentence structure. For example, 'Commence with devolopment of Islip town' is an incomplete and ungrammatical opening. Many sentences are clunky, such as 'By keeping in mind about drastically increasing population housing scheme will divide into different categories'. While there is an attempt at complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on the correct use of prepositions and articles.
