IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given maps illustrates the layout of the Islip town centre at present and proposed developments in future.

Overall, the planned development will transform the centre significantly. with several new facilities including a new bus station, a shopping centre and a car park being introduced. However, some exisiting features such as the school, park and housing area will remain unchanged.

At present, the town centre is relatively simple in its layout. There are two rows of shops is present in the northern part, separated by a main road. A park and a school are situated at the south-eastern and south-western side of the centre, In addition, residential area is located at the south of the shops, while the countryside lies at the north.

according to the future plans, the centre will experience a considerable modernization. The northern row of shops will be redeveloped with several new facilities including a car park, a shooping centre and a bus station. The former main road will be converted into pedestrained street, while a new dual carriageway will be introduced arround the centre which will help to connect all places. Furthermore, two new residential areas will be added in the western side of the centre, one in the southern side, while other in the northern side. In contrast, few existing structures including school, park and residential areas will remain unchanged.
