The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given maps illustrate the Islip which is at the centre of town, one of them shows current centre and another is for planned developed Islip town centre.

Overall, it can be seen on the north new infrastruture were built like Bus station, Shopping centre, Car parking and new housing. For persons there are now Pedestrians only for them.

At present, a main road runs from west to east through the centre, with shops lining both sides. The sourthern area consists of housing, with a school to the south-west and a park in the east. The northern side is largely countryside.

Under the proposed plan, the main road will be replaced by a dual carriageway forming a loop around the town centre. Inside this ring road, the section will become pedertrian only. A bus station, shpping centre and car park will be built in th north, while new housing will occupy the north-east and sourthern areas.Finally, the park wil move to the south-east, and housing will be added outside the rig road.
