Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, failing to meet the 150-word minimum length requirement, as it contains only 137 words. The summary of the changes in Islip town centre is very basic and lacks sufficient detail. While the student attempts to point out some developments, such as the addition of a bus station and shopping centre, the descriptions are disjointed and difficult to follow. Key features of the maps, like the dual carriageway loop and the pedestrianized central street, are either omitted or unclearly stated. The overview is extremely brief and does not adequately capture the main overall trends shown in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The writing lacks a clear overall progression, and the transitions between sentences and paragraphs feel abrupt and disconnected. For instance, jumping from 'in this plan. that is the same general area' to 'How ever the down side housing area' creates confusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with repetitive phrasing and poor logical sequencing. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the current map and the development plans.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing limited terms like 'town', 'area', and 'housing' throughout the response. There are noticeable word choice and word formation errors, such as 'compair' instead of compare, 'shoppoing' instead of shopping, and 'depand' instead of depend. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors strain the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary. The student attempts a few less common words, but these are generally unsuccessful or inappropriate in context, keeping the lexical score at a lower level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of fragments and poorly formed simple sentences. There are frequent errors in sentence structure, verb forms, and articles, such as 'it is plans development in future' and 'the south side is also school will positioned'. Clauses are often awkwardly joined, and punctuation is inconsistent. These frequent grammatical errors distort meaning and make several parts of the text very difficult to understand, demonstrating minimal control over complex sentence forms.
