Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making clear comparisons between the current layout of Islip and the proposed development plans. In terms of selecting key details, you correctly pointed out the transformation of the main road into a dual carriageway loop, the addition of a bus station, shopping centre, and car park, and the retention of the school. However, some parts of your response are slightly under-developed or vague, such as stating that 'upper shops will be replaced by several different things' without fully elaborating on the spatial arrangement or the exact pedestrianization of the central street. To reach the highest band, your overview and supporting details would need to be more fully extended and entirely precise without any minor omissions in feature reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief overview at the beginning. You attempt to guide the reader using cohesive devices and transition markers such as 'Overall', 'Currently', 'However', and 'Ultimately'. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the sentence 'Ultimately, the main road which connects the park with shops and school, it will be changed to a circle road,' which contains a dangling referencing error with 'it'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression between sentences could be smoothed out with more natural connectors and precise pronoun referencing to lift the organizational flow to the next level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'converted', 'erected', and 'adjacent'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'plans its development' (missing preposition 'for'), 'circle road' instead of 'circular road' or 'ring road', 'servces' (spelling error), and awkward phrases like 'adjacent to the bus station from right side'. While these minor lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, achieving a higher band would require a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, demonstrating superior control over less common lexical items, style, and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can use various structures to describe maps and future changes. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in sentence construction, articles, and prepositions, such as 'two shops are located in the north of the twon' (spelling and article issues), 'space of park' (missing article), and the fused clause in 'the main road which connects the park with shops and school, it will be changed'. Furthermore, attempts at complex structures often contain minor flaws. To improve your grammar score, you should focus on reducing basic structural errors, ensuring proper subject-verb and pronoun agreement, and mastering complex sentence patterns so that error-free sentences become much more frequent.
