Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features of the maps such as the pedestrianisation of the main road and the addition of a dual carriageway and a shopping centre. However, the overview is rather basic and contains inaccuracies, such as stating that the countryside will be replaced by new housing when the maps show housing replacing shops in the northern area while the countryside lies beyond. Furthermore, the description cuts off abruptly at the end with an unfinished sentence ('Another area in southern part their...'), leaving ideas underdeveloped and parts of the visual data unreported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with the use of introductory and body paragraphs, but overall progression is lacking. The response relies on simple transitions like 'Overall' and 'At present', yet the internal connection of ideas is weak due to abrupt shifts and missing information. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the ambiguous spatial positioning in the final sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the disjointed flow and incomplete final thought prevent a clear overall structure from emerging.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some topic-specific terms like 'dual carriageway', 'pedestrians only', and 'shopping centre', but also makes noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'towen' instead of town, 'svhool' instead of school, and 'propesed' instead of proposed. Additionally, awkward phrasing like 'constraced' instead of constructed causes some difficulty for the reader and restricts the lexical range to a basic level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent basic errors. There are numerous issues with articles and plurals, such as 'The map illustrate' instead of illustrates, 'small town' lacking an article, and 'a two area of housing'. Verb forms and tenses are inconsistently handled, as seen in 'The main road replace whith' and 'will built'. Frequent grammatical errors, awkward punctuation, and the unfinished sentence structure cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader.
