Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main direction of change and include several important features, such as the new bus station, shopping centre, car park, dual carriageway, additional housing and smaller park. The overview also makes clear that the town will undergo substantial development. This meets the task well, and some details are reported accurately, including the school remaining in its position. However, some features are less fully or precisely described: the planned road is a loop around the centre, rather than simply an “oval shape,” and the central east–west road becomes pedestrian-only. The description of the current layout is also unclear about the school and housing, while the planned southern arrangement and the retained shops could be explained more clearly. More precise comparisons would strengthen the account further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of the current map and a final section on the plans. This gives the reader a broad progression from present to future, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Currently” and “Moreover” help signal shifts. However, the final paragraph contains many features in long, loosely connected sentences, so relationships between locations are sometimes difficult to follow. For example, “all of facilities will be beside each other” is followed by several changes without a clear west-to-east or north-to-south sequence. Some transitions, such as “Moving to the South-Western corner,” do not lead to a precise description. Grouping details by area and using clearer references would make the organisation more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of map-related vocabulary, including “dual carriageway,” “situated,” “shrink” and “previous size,” which helps communicate the main changes. There are also attempts to describe shape and location, such as “oval shape road” and “South-Eastern part.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for this task: “developmental plans,” “housing colonies,” “facilites” and “new housing segment.” “One way road” is not supported by the map, and “as usual” is too informal and vague for describing the shops that remain. Spelling errors such as “facilties” and “positon,” along with inconsistent forms such as “center/centre,” reduce accuracy. More precise map vocabulary and careful spelling would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “as,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, some sentences contain grammatical errors or incomplete connections. The opening phrase “it's current position” needs a possessive form, and “Currently, Islip town center has one main road shops are located…” joins two clauses without suitable punctuation or a linking word. “And a large area for Housing colonies” is a fragment, while “there will shops” is missing a verb. There are also inconsistent article and plural patterns, as in “all of facilities” and “a new housing space.” Breaking up long sentences and checking clause structure, articles and verb forms would make the description more accurate.
