Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the maps as showing Islip before and after development, and you mention several genuine changes, including the bus station, shopping centre, car park and pedestrian-only route. However, the response only partially reports the mapped information. It repeats that the town will change and speculates about benefits such as “financial stability” and a stronger community, which the maps do not show. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: the new housing is not described as being for pupils, and the northern shops are replaced by several facilities, not simply a housing society. To improve, give a concise overview of the main spatial changes, then accurately compare the road layout, retained southern shops, reduced park and new housing areas. (17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has separate paragraphs and uses basic signposting such as “Overall,” “On other side,” and “The closer look reveals.” These give the reader some indication of how the answer is organised. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the second and fourth paragraphs repeat that the town will change, while the third revisits the northern shops and road without adding a well-ordered comparison. Connections between points are sometimes unclear, and the overview mixes map features with unsupported predictions. Organise the answer into a brief overview followed by a paragraph on northern and central changes and one on the southern area and roads. Use linking phrases to show location and contrast rather than repeating general statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “Bus station,” “shopping centre,” “Car park,” “foot path,” and “north side,” so the reader can recognise several intended features. However, the range is limited and key phrases are repeated, particularly “development,” “town centre,” and “new housing society.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a map: “long range road” does not clearly identify the dual carriageway, and “strong their community centre” is not a suitable description of a mapped change. Spelling and word-form errors, including “islip,” “pedetrins,” and “benefical,” also reduce precision. Build a bank of accurate location and change terms, such as “to the north of,” “is replaced by,” and “is retained.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “The main thing is that Shop on the north side will convert in to…” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, tense, articles and sentence construction often make the description difficult to follow. Examples include “The maps illustrates,” “Car park were develop,” and “the small town were totally change.” The repeated use of future forms such as “will convert” and “might develop” also does not consistently distinguish what the plan shows from speculation. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of maps and use passive forms where appropriate, such as “The northern shops are replaced by…” Check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries before submitting.
