Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the new dual carriageway, replacement of the northern shops, and changes to housing and the park. The overview also highlights the development’s broad impact, and several details are accurate, including the southern shops remaining and the school staying in place. This meets the task well, with some features reported more fully than others. However, the overview says the countryside was removed, which is not shown; it is simply no longer labelled in the planned map. The description also misses the pedestrian-only central street and the bus station, shopping centre and car park’s west-to-east arrangement. Clarifying these key changes and avoiding unsupported claims would make the account more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the planned changes. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined mechanically with “Furthermore,” “And also,” and repeated “In development plan.” The sentence beginning “The location of row of shops…” combines several changes without clear separation, making the relationships between them harder to follow. Use a consistent spatial sequence—for example, north of the central street, then south of it—and divide related changes into clearer sentences. More precise referencing would also help distinguish the town centre from the surrounding road loop.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “dual carriageway,” “relocated,” “demolished,” and “remain,” so the reader can understand many of the planned changes. However, the range and control are uneven: phrases such as “went significant changes,” “most notice changes,” and “new facilites” are inaccurate or misspelled, while “build” is repeated for several developments. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “a path” for the pedestrian-only street and “the size of town center also expanded,” which does not clearly describe the map. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider set of verbs, such as “underwent major changes,” “was replaced by,” and “was reduced in size.” Proofreading spelling would further improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent enough to limit accuracy. For example, “The map illustrates the changes took place” needs a relative clause or a different structure, while “the city went significant changes” has an incorrect verb pattern. In “the location of park remain same,” the article and verb agreement are missing, and “the south side was remainsame” combines incompatible verb forms. Punctuation also needs attention, particularly where sentences run together after “constructed” and “carriageway.” Practise accurate past-tense passive forms for describing planned changes, such as “was replaced” and “was relocated.”
