Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify that the maps compare Islip before and after development, and you mention several relevant features, including shops, the main road, a bus station, car parking, housing and the park. However, the description is only partial and some locations are inaccurate or unclear. For example, you say the school is reached by turning south from the main road, although the school is south of the western side road; you also place the new housing to the north, whereas the planned map shows it in the northeast and south-central areas. The key changes—pedestrianising the central street, replacing northern shops with facilities, and adding a dual-carriageway loop—are not clearly explained. Give a precise overview and compare the main changes by location.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a summary, two detail paragraphs and a conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of the task’s stages. However, the progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, and the map features are not grouped consistently by area or by change. Phrases such as “to go back to move straight” and “opposite side” do not make the relationships between locations clear. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand” and “To conclude” are used, but they do not always express a clear contrast or logical summary. Organise the report around the present layout and planned changes, and use precise references such as “north of the pedestrian street” and “to the east.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt some task-relevant vocabulary, including “main road,” “housing,” “bus station” and “park,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repeated expressions make the description hard to understand. Phrases such as “different departments,” “major facilitaes” and “people have facilitate” do not convey the map features naturally; “car parking” is also less precise here than “car park.” Spelling errors, including “diffirent,” “secound” and “improment,” further reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of map vocabulary and use accurate terms for locations, roads and changes, rather than relying on vague phrases such as “many points.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
There are attempts to form longer sentences and connect ideas, but the grammatical control is weak, and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “To show the map or provided to diffirent area” lacks a clear sentence structure, while “the road is round and entre the north side is new housing place” combines clauses without correct verb forms or relationships. Articles and agreement are also unreliable, as in “is aschool,” and tense and sentence boundaries are often unclear. Use short, complete sentences first, with a clear subject and verb, then add simple comparisons using accurate structures such as “The shops are replaced by…” or “A dual carriageway will run around…”.
