Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify that the maps show Islip before and after development, and mention several relevant features, including the bus station, shopping centre, car park, new housing and pedestrian route. However, the description is very limited and some key changes are unclear or inaccurate: for example, the school is not newly constructed, and the dual carriageway forms a loop rather than being simply on the west. The overview does not clearly summarise the main transformation, such as the northern shops being replaced and the central road becoming pedestrian-only. The response also contains 126 words, below the required 150, which restricts how fully you can report and compare the plans. Add a clear overview and describe the main changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to move from the current map to the planned development, and location words such as “north side” and “east side” show an effort to organise the information spatially. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear progression, and the paragraphing does not separate the present layout from the proposed one effectively. Several sentences are difficult to follow, such as “overall, now at that time, islip center situated in south side,” while the final section combines multiple features without clear relationships. Use a short overview followed by one paragraph for the current map and one for the plan. Linking phrases such as “In the current layout” and “Under the proposal” would make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “bus station,” “shopping centre,” “car park,” “housing” and “pedestrians only,” so the reader can recognise several planned features. However, the range is basic and some word choices or spellings make the meaning harder to understand, including “slip” for Islip, “footh path” and “carparkand.” Phrases such as “the west side has two carriageway” are also imprecise for describing the planned road network. Aim to use accurate location and change vocabulary, for example “is replaced by,” “remains,” “to the north of” and “a loop around the centre.” Proofreading place names and compound nouns would also improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to form sentences about both maps, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors frequently make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The given graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the school has been constructed” uses a tense and meaning that do not fit the map. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “two carriageway” and the run-on sequence “the north side of the housing set up bus station with shopping centre.” Most structures are simple, with little accurate use of complex comparisons. Build clear sentences with a subject and verb, check singular and plural forms, and use present tense for the existing map and future or passive forms for planned changes.
