Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response recognises that the maps compare Islip before and after development, and it mentions two relevant planned features: a car park and a shopping centre. However, it mainly gives opinions about organisation, traffic and residents’ quality of life rather than accurately summarising the mapped changes. For example, the claim that the existing town is “not organize” and that vehicle noise and smoke affect nearby residents is not information shown on the maps. Important changes are omitted, including the pedestrian-only central street, the dual-carriageway loop, the bus station, and the changes to housing and the park. To improve, give a concise overview of the main transformation, then describe the key locations and changes using only evidence from the maps.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response by comparing the “first image” with the “second image,” so the reader can identify which map is being discussed. However, the ideas within each section do not develop in a clear sequence, and several points repeat the same general claim that the area is organised. Linking is limited, with repeated openings such as “In the first image” and “In this image,” while the transition between the maps is abrupt. The response would be clearer with an introduction, a separate overview, and body paragraphs grouped by the northern and southern parts of the town. Use precise references such as “north of the pedestrian street” to connect details logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the precision needed to describe map changes. The response uses general terms such as “image,” “area,” “thing,” and “proper order” instead of specific map language. It does identify “car parking” and “shopping center,” showing some relevant topic vocabulary, but these details are not developed into a fuller description. Several word choices and spellings also make the meaning less clear, including “twon,” “nosie,” and “traffice.” Build a small set of accurate terms for locations and changes, such as “is replaced by,” “is located to the north of,” “pedestrian-only street,” and “dual carriageway.” This will make comparisons more exact and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mostly on short, simple statements, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “There are two image one is islip town” has problems with plural agreement, sentence boundaries and capitalisation, while “first they made map and then after they construct this area” has unclear tense and article use. Subject–verb agreement and sentence construction are also weak in “shopping center in there people can buy each and every thing.” Try writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use the present simple consistently to describe the maps: for example, “The planned map shows a shopping centre north of the pedestrian street.” Check articles, plurals and punctuation when editing.
