Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the maps as showing Islip now and after development, and you mention several relevant features, including the pedestrian-only street, new transport facilities, housing, the school and park. However, the response reports the changes only minimally, and some descriptions are unclear or inaccurate: for example, “future time weast side add dual carriageway” does not explain that the carriageway forms a loop around the centre, while “the school and housing ... same side and similar place” misses that the school and southern housing remain outside the loop. The overview is also difficult to interpret and does not clearly summarise the main transformation. The response is 127 words, below the required 150. Add a clear overview and describe the key changes and retained features more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and descriptions of the present and planned layouts. This gives the reader some indication of the intended sequence. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are fragmented, repeated and not clearly connected. “Overall it is clear” appears twice, and the planned-development paragraph combines several locations and facilities without a clear order. Some references, such as “same side and similar place,” do not make clear which features or locations are being compared. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs and organise details by area—for example, the northern side, the central street and the southern area. Linking phrases such as “currently,” “under the plan,” and “to the south” would help make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “dual carriageway,” “pedestrians only,” “shopping,” “housing,” “school” and “park.” These choices show an attempt to describe both existing and planned features. However, the range is basic and several spelling, word-form and collocation errors make meaning difficult to recover, as in “campare,” “mordernixed,” “weast sied,” “replased” and “bus sation.” Phrases such as “shopping car” and “center road side of 2 shops” are not clear or natural descriptions. Aim to use accurate, standard terms consistently, such as “shopping centre,” “car park,” “shops along the main road” and “the town centre will be modernised.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise location phrases would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few sentence forms, including an overall statement and descriptions of the present and future layouts. However, grammatical control is weak and the range of accurate structures is very limited. For example, “The schools is souths side” has problems with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction, while “At the present time lslip town center is center road side of 2 shops” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between its parts. Several fragments, including “main road replased by pedestrian only,” do not form complete sentences. Try building clear simple sentences first, with a subject and verb, then add location details: “The main road will become a pedestrian street.” Check articles, plurals, verb forms and punctuation, and use past/present and future forms consistently when comparing the maps.
