Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two maps as showing Islip now and its planned development, and you mention several relevant features, including the main road, shops, countryside, school, park, bus station and shopping centre. However, the response only partially summarises the changes: it does not explain the planned dual-carriageway loop or that the central road will become pedestrian-only, and it gives little clear comparison between the present and future layouts. Some locations are also misreported: the school is south of the centre rather than on its west side, and the planned housing is not simply on the east. The overview is unclear and does not identify the main transformation. To improve, state the key changes first, then accurately compare the northern and southern areas and the road system.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the maps, describes the current town, and then turns to the planned development. This gives the reader some sense of the two time periods. However, the opening overview—“are depends on the several parts”—does not communicate a clear organising idea, and the final paragraph lists features without showing how they relate spatially or how they differ from the current map. Linking words such as “while” are used without a complete or clear contrast. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by one paragraph on the present layout and one on the proposed changes. Use location-based links such as “north of,” “to the east,” and “whereas” to make relationships clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “main road,” “housing,” “countryside,” “bus station,” and “shopping centre,” so the reader can recognise several map features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “short town,” “housing socities,” “uper,” and “pedestriand.” The repeated use of “side” and “centre” also makes the account sound list-like. Aim for accurate map language and a wider set of verbs, for example “is located,” “will be replaced by,” and “will remain.” Check spelling carefully and use precise terms for the planned road changes and pedestrian area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts several sentence forms, including a comparison introduced by “while,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns and contain frequent errors that sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “the islip town centre now and plan of development … are depends” has incorrect verb construction and agreement, while “South side … have housing” lacks an appropriate article and uses an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with plural forms and sentence boundaries, as in “There are school in west side.” Practise building clear sentences with a subject and correctly conjugated verb, and use consistent present and future forms to distinguish the existing map from the plan. Accurate basic sentences should come before longer, joined structures.
