Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies the broad contrast between the present town centre and its planned development, mentioning housing, a park, shops, a bus station, a shopping centre and parking. However, the account is only partial and several key changes are unclear or inaccurate. For example, the current map has two rows of shops, not “one store,” and the planned layout retains the southern shops while making the central road pedestrian-only; neither point is clearly reported. The description also misplaces the existing park as being “at the south or east direction” and does not explain the dual-carriageway loop or the school’s position outside it. The overview that development will provide more facilities is relevant, but the main spatial changes need to be selected and described more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic overall sequence: the response introduces a comparison, describes the current centre, then refers to the proposed plan and ends with a general comparison. This gives the reader some sense of the topic. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak, and several ideas are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, such as the description beginning “the center now a days.” Linking phrases such as “in the coming project” and “The comparisons display” are attempted, but connections between individual features are not consistently clear. Organise the response into a concise introduction and overview followed by separate descriptions of the present and planned layouts. Use clear spatial links—such as “to the north,” “while,” and “in contrast”—to show how locations and features relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “dual carriageway,” “bus station,” “park,” “housing,” and “facilities,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which makes some details difficult to interpret. “One store” does not accurately describe the two rows of shops, while “a mall” and “parking” are less precise than the map labels “shopping centre” and “car park.” There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “pitcher” for “picture,” “accomodations,” and “housings.” Build a more precise set of location and change terms, and check spelling and collocations so that the vocabulary reports the map rather than making broad claims.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between features hard to follow. Examples include “The plan of development … is going to be compared with its current or future,” where the comparison is incomplete, and “there would more new housings,” which lacks a verb form. Articles, agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention: “it also have only one road” and “The graph presented the plan that will made it more developing” are difficult to process. Punctuation and capitalisation are unreliable, particularly in the opening and the long middle sentence. Practise writing short, complete map-report sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
