Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has now become a common trend for businesses to promote their products as something new in their advertisement. It is a marketing strategy to encourage people to buy their product because humans have a tendency to always want something new . This type of advertisement has both positive and negative impacts.
By advertising their product as new in some way the consumers are left with many expectations. Which can drive the product makers to work harder on their product. Since smaller businesses are following this trend of introducing newer products, the giant businesses are also forced to invest in creating improved products with newer feature. It helps build healthy competition among businesses which can benefit the consumers. Also, people are tend to invest more into products with newer feature. Therefore, this type of advertisement can help sell more products and help the business and the economy grow.
But this type of advertisement can have a tremendous negative impact if done wrong. If the product doesn't deliver newer features as promised it can leave negative reviews on the product. The pressure to meet customer expectations can also have negative impact. It can cause unnecessary stress for the workers. Many businesses try to claim their product is new without making any significant change to the old ones. Because of this type of false advertisment that this trend has become hated by many. If the advertisements are somehow false then the business can face legal actions. It can be hit with a hefty fine and can ruin the companies reputation.
In conclusion , generally such advertisement is beneficial for the consumer and the business but it must be used with caution in order to avoid false advertisement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract consumers who want new products, and you present both benefits and drawbacks before concluding that the practice is generally beneficial if used carefully. The points about competition, product improvement, consumer expectations and misleading claims are relevant. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between selling more products and economic growth is not illustrated, and the claim that pressure creates stress for workers is not developed. Your position is clear overall, but the discussion would be more convincing if you explained these effects with specific examples and made the reasons for emphasising novelty more fully distinct from the evaluation of its impact.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion that restates your position. The contrast between the positive and negative effects is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “Therefore,” and “In conclusion” help signal progression. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Which can drive the product makers to work harder” is a sentence fragment, while “Because of this type of false advertisment that this trend has become hated by many” does not clearly connect its cause and result. The repeated use of “this type of advertisement” also makes cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions while ensuring each sentence is grammatically complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss marketing and its effects, including “marketing strategy,” “healthy competition,” “customer expectations,” and “legal actions.” These choices make your main points understandable, and you attempt some more specific language. At times, however, word choice and collocation are imprecise or repetitive: “newer feature” is repeated, “left with many expectations” is not a natural expression in this context, and “hated by many” is too broad and informal for an academic argument. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “advertisment” and “companies reputation.” Aim for more precise terms and check spelling and possessive forms; this will make the argument sound more controlled and appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses such as “If the product doesn't deliver newer features as promised” and a subordinate clause beginning “Since smaller businesses are following this trend.” Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. “Which can drive the product makers to work harder” is a fragment, and “people are tend to invest” should be “people tend to invest.” There are also agreement and article issues in “newer feature” and “can also have negative impact,” as well as missing spaces after full stops. The comma in “In conclusion ,” is incorrectly spaced. Review sentence boundaries, verb patterns, articles and plurals, while continuing to use complex sentences.
