Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain that businesses highlight novelty to attract customers and compete, and you state that you see this as positive. The examples about mobile-phone features and energy-efficient appliances are relevant and help illustrate your points. However, the explanation of why consumers want new products is brief, and the benefits to society are asserted more than explored. For example, you mention budget-friendly options and reduced effort, but do not explain how advertising itself encourages these outcomes or consider any possible drawbacks. To strengthen the response, develop each main idea with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and make the link between novelty-focused advertising and your positive judgement more explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” make the main stages easy to follow. The ideas generally progress from business motives to wider social benefits. However, the linking is somewhat mechanical, and repeated use of “also” and “and” makes some sentences feel like lists rather than developed arguments. The conclusion mainly repeats the reasons from the introduction instead of bringing the argument together. Improve cohesion by varying how you connect ideas, using pronouns or concise references where clear, and ensuring each paragraph develops one central point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “innovative,” “consumers,” “competitors,” “energy efficient,” and “features,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “componies,” “compitition,” and “intoduced.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “attracting things” and “win this competition.” Repetition of “new,” “modern,” and “also” further restricts variety. Build a more accurate set of topic-specific expressions and check spelling carefully. Choosing precise collocations—for example, “appeal to consumers” or “gain a competitive advantage”—would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and examples introduced by “For instance.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “every business wanted” does not match the present-time context, while “businesses wants to catches” combines incorrect agreement and verb forms. In “modern consumers are wanted,” the verb pattern is also faulty. Some sentences become difficult to follow because several clauses are joined together, particularly the sentence about washing machines. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and divide long sentences into clearer units while retaining a mix of structures.
