Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many companies are now advertising, their products as new to attract more costumers. From my perspective, although this approach may be helpful in technological advacement and improving the quality and giving the variety of choices, there are some drawbacks such as companies can mislead consumers or overally exaggerate minor improvements.

To begin with, to attract more costumers companies are now advertising their products more as compared with past. They are constantly competating with each other, so there are high chances of new technlogical innovations. For instance, cellphones now have more features from past decades due to the constant competation among Samsung and Apple. The launching of new products is also helpful for the costumers to choose quality over the quantity. For example, many newly launched earbuds have enc modes for cancellation of surrounding noices, However enc mode may consume more battery then normal earbuds, so customers can look for the product such as for the earbuds which have longer battery with enc mode.

Secondaly, there are some drawbacks still exist. For many companies the purpose is to generate maximum profit, there are chance that companies can compromise on the quality of products and mislead the consumers through fake advertisement. For instance, the famous clothing brand can advertise his clothes are made up of premium material with have resistance to fadding, eventhough the original colour of clothes is started to fadding after few washes. Additionally companies can also display minor changes as more, and create financial pressure on costumers to buy their products. For example many people use iphone, the brand was constantly changing their models but design of their new models were remained same for long period.

In conclusion, the advertisement is helpfull for many compnies and consumers, however the drawbacks should be adressed properly. The authorities can have a power to take action against companies, which they found guilty for deceiving people. In contrast, they should provide funds and support to companies, which are working on new ideas and technical advacements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the prompt: competition and innovation explain why businesses stress novelty, while the discussion of misleading claims and minor redesigns supports your view that this can have drawbacks. Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion, and examples such as phone features and clothing claims make the points relevant. The response also recognises a benefit for consumers in comparing product features. However, the reasons businesses emphasise novelty could be explained more directly—for example, how it attracts attention, differentiates a brand, or encourages repeat purchases. Some examples, particularly the earbuds comparison and the iPhone design point, are not fully connected to the central argument. Developing these links and weighing the positive and negative effects more explicitly would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from competition and consumer choice to misleading advertising is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This provides a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical and a few connections are unclear. For example, the earbuds example shifts from noise cancellation to battery life without clearly showing how this illustrates advertising products as new. The conclusion introduces government support and funding, which have not been developed in the body. Make each example explicitly support its paragraph’s main point, and ensure the conclusion summarises rather than adds a new proposal.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “technological innovations,” “compromise on the quality,” “mislead consumers,” and “financial pressure.” These choices show an attempt to discuss advertising and product development beyond basic terms. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “costumers,” “competating,” “advacement,” and “fadding,” and some collocations are awkward, such as “advertising their products more as compared with past” and “display minor changes as more.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the main meaning is generally recoverable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing natural combinations such as “emphasise new features,” “compete with one another,” and “exaggerate minor changes.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession in the opening (“although this approach may be helpful…”) and conditional structures such as “there are chance that companies can compromise.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms remain. For example, “there are some drawbacks still exist” combines two structures; “the brand was constantly changing their models” has an agreement problem; and “the original colour of clothes is started to fadding” has an inaccurate verb construction. Punctuation also needs attention, particularly the comma splice in “For many companies the purpose is to generate maximum profit, there are chance…”. Practise accurate clause construction and review agreement and tense choices while proofreading.
