Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many major advertising campaigns of businesses these days are continuesly hammering the message that their products are new in some way. In my perspective, this is happening because the market has been saturated due to the global fashion trends and these businesses struggle to stand out. Businesses sees this angle of advertising as the only possible solution to stand out considering the competition in the current market.

For many years in the past advertising revolves through the same ideas to advertise products. But when especially after covid many new bussinesses stablished in recent years have created market highly competitive. For example, we only had nestle that was widely recognized for baby food products but now there are thousands of other new brands that has come up and introduced various different products in the market and made their place.

Similary, in Pakistan for example, there used to be only a few major clothing brands where as now there are thousands of locally manufactured small and big brands available. Therefore businesses who are not making their audience aware of their products and its uniquness in comparision to other products are struggling. As there are various other options to switch.

In conclusion, It is pretty avident that businesses who are using a particular agenda in advertising their products like pushing the idea that their products are new in some way, is the surving as a savior for them in the fast pace businesses environment where competition is tough due to global fashion trends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify a plausible reason for highlighting novelty: businesses face greater competition and want their products to stand out. The examples of baby-food brands and clothing companies in Pakistan are relevant, but they mainly illustrate market growth rather than explain why advertising products as new is effective. Most importantly, the task also asks whether this is positive or negative; you do not give a clear judgement or develop either side, so the response addresses the prompt only partially. The conclusion repeats the competition point without answering that part. The response is 234 words, 16 words below the 250-word minimum; 16 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, state your view directly and support it with a developed explanation and example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with examples, and a conclusion. The examples are grouped by market, and connectors such as “For example,” “Similarly,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because both body paragraphs largely repeat the claim that competition makes businesses need to stand out, while the conclusion restates this rather than drawing the argument together. Some links are also awkward or incomplete, particularly “As there are various other options to switch,” which does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. Develop a distinct point in each body paragraph and use clear referencing and complete transitions to show how each example supports your reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “advertising campaigns,” “market has been saturated,” “competition,” and “locally manufactured,” which helps communicate the general subject. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “stand out” and “audience aware.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “continuesly,” “bussinesses,” “uniquness,” and “surving” are difficult to read, while “global fashion trends” is not clearly connected to the argument. Some expressions are unnatural, such as “pushing the idea” and “a particular agenda in advertising.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing collocations that express the intended meaning precisely, such as “promote a product’s novelty” or “differentiate themselves from competitors.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a relative clause in “brands that has come up.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to follow. For example, “Businesses sees” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “advertising revolves through” uses an incorrect verb form and construction. The sentence beginning “But when especially after covid” is incomplete or poorly formed, while “Therefore businesses … are struggling. As there are various other options to switch” leaves a fragment. Work on complete sentence boundaries, agreement, and verb forms; then proofread punctuation and sentence openings. More accurate control of a few clear complex patterns would improve readability.
