Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the marketing of products, companies are demonstrating their products in a unique way. I think this is a positive development becuase, companies want to increase their sales and mitigate the competition from the other brands.

Almost every commercial company has a goal to generate as much as revenue they can, for that they use promotion technique. Through promoting the prodcuts among the people, brand awareness can be increases. This shows the different features of the product that are not posseses by the other companies. As a result, people starts to buy products of new brand, and it increases the revenue of the company. For example, in India mostly people watch T.V in their free time, so companies think to promote the product and its features on T.V can create more awereness about products, and it leads to increase the sale of the company.

On the other hand, competition is also increased among comapnies. So, for stand out from their competitiers, businesses ofter use marketing as a tool to show their brand is more superior than other brands. This will result into the increase in brand value and unique positioning among different brands. For that reason, marketing can distingushed companies from each other and compete against each other. For instance, one toothpaste brand promote its product by saying it contains salt that will be beneficial for the health of teeth, while another brand claims that their toothpaste contains both, sugar and salt because, they both are neccessary for the good health of teeth.

In conclusion, doing promotion of products is a positive development because, it helps to businesses to increase their revenue and customer base. So that, company can stand against each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear positive view and identify two relevant reasons: businesses seek higher sales and use claims of novelty to distinguish themselves from competitors. The examples about television advertising in India and competing toothpaste claims help illustrate these points. However, the response only partly answers why businesses emphasise that products are new: the discussion focuses broadly on promotion and competition, without explaining why novelty itself attracts consumers or creates a market advantage. Some claims, such as the toothpaste example, are asserted rather than explained, and the benefits are not balanced against any possible drawbacks. Develop the link between new features, consumer interest, and business outcomes more explicitly, and extend each example to show how it supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly separate the sales and competition arguments, and signposts such as “As a result,” “On the other hand,” and “For instance” help readers follow the discussion. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the second body paragraph begins with “On the other hand” even though it adds another reason supporting the same positive position rather than presenting a contrasting view. Some links between sentences are unclear, particularly “For that reason, marketing can distingushed companies from each other and compete against each other.” Use more precise referencing and transitions, and make each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “brand awareness,” “revenue,” “competition,” and “unique positioning,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “mitigate the competition,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, and spelling errors are noticeable: “prodcuts,” “awereness,” “comapnies,” and “neccessary.” Phrases such as “promotion technique” and “more superior” also show limited control of collocation and word form. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make it less precise and fluent. Focus on accurate business-related collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “promotional strategy” and “differentiate a brand from its competitors.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “As a result” and clauses beginning with “because.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “companies want to increase their sales and mitigate the competition from the other brands” is incorrectly punctuated after “because,” while “brand awareness can be increases” has an incorrect verb form. Agreement and sentence construction also cause problems in “people starts to buy” and “it helps to businesses to increase their revenue.” These errors recur and sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise subject–verb agreement, passive forms, and sentence boundaries, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
