Student answer (Band 7.0)

Technology has advanced significantly. Manufacturers nowdays generally improve and enhanced their products with

new features and actively advertise on social platforms to grab their audience attention. In my opinion, this is a positive development.

To begin with, businesses run advertisements to attract customers' attention. People are naturally curious about new products. To elaborate this, Samsung launched a smartphone model last month and is now promoting the same model with a few upgraded features. As, the word "New" creates excitement and encourages people to try the product. As a result, people impulsively purchase the product and others buy this due to peer pressure in order to maintain social status. Therefore, emphasizing that a product is new creates a huge number of audience attention and increase sales.

Second main reason is that these firms raise brand Image and compete with rivals. Markets are highly competitive and to stay with trend they produce new products continuously to beat the rivals or upgrade existing ones to keep up with changing trends and gain a competitive advantage. To illustrate this, car manufacturers release updated models every year with improved safety features, advanced technology, and better fuel efficiency to attract more buyers than their competitors. Thus, to highlighting a product is new enables businesses to remain competitive while enhancing their brand image.

In conclusion, active advertisement of new features allow companies to again more sales by attracting buyers. Also, doing continuously improvements to the key features of product helps the audience to build trust, maintain brand image and compete with rivals. Therefore, I believe this is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize newness and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of consumer curiosity and competitive advantage. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like Samsung and car manufacturers, the analysis remains a bit superficial. To reach a higher band, you should explore the implications of your position more deeply—for example, by discussing the environmental impact of constant consumption or the benefits of innovation for society. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of argument could be more robust to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Second main reason,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more varied. For instance, the link between the first paragraph's conclusion and the second paragraph's opening could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a coherent manner that allows the reader to follow your argument without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'competitive advantage,' 'impulsively,' and 'social status.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'grab their audience attention' (should be 'grab their audience's attention') and 'doing continuously improvements' (should be 'making continuous improvements'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, some phrasing feels slightly repetitive or imprecise. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and incorporating a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary to express your ideas with greater precision and naturalness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'Manufacturers nowdays generally improve and enhanced' (should be 'improve and enhance'), 'To elaborate this' (should be 'To elaborate on this'), and 'Thus, to highlighting a product' (should be 'Thus, highlighting a product'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of verb tenses and prepositional usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
