Student answer (Band 6.0)

This is latest trend these days that the companies announce new products in every few months to attract customers and increases sales. I think it is a positive development as consumers get to experience something new in the products they mostly use in daily life.

The main reason for companies to claim that their products are new is the little change they include in it, by enriching the formula of some beauty products or introducing new technology in household items like air conditioner, fridges and microwave. It directly benefit the individuals as they get the latest and advance model. Corporations also get more sale, increase in profit while maintaining their customer trust.

Furthermore, there is always a competition happening among franchises. take KFC and macdonald's for example; whenever a one of them announce a new deal or a new

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 139 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While the essay introduces the topic and takes a position, the arguments regarding why companies emphasize 'newness' and whether this is positive are underdeveloped. The response cuts off mid-sentence, preventing a full exploration of the prompt. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure you provide a complete conclusion. Currently, the response is too brief to fully address all parts of the task, resulting in a lower score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'for example', but the limited length makes it difficult to assess your ability to manage a full-length argument. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which impacts the overall structure. To achieve a higher score, ensure your ideas are fully developed and linked with a wider range of cohesive devices, and always complete your essay with a clear concluding paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'latest trend', 'new products', and 'increase in profit'. While these are accurate, they are somewhat repetitive. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'whenever a one of them', which should be 'whenever one of them'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to business and consumer behavior, and ensure your collocations are natural. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetition and demonstrate a better command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'This is latest trend' (missing article 'the'), 'in every few months' (incorrect preposition), and 'It directly benefit' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the capitalization of 'macdonald's'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for basic punctuation errors. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help demonstrate a higher level of grammatical control.
