Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 148 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you touch upon why businesses emphasize 'newness' and briefly mention the impact of advertising, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The response does not fully address the prompt, as it lacks a clear introduction, a structured body, and a conclusion. To improve, you must expand your points with detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a clear organizational structure. There is no paragraphing, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent or used incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition between the discussion of social media and the mention of influencers. The sentences are often disjointed, and the lack of logical sequencing hinders the overall flow of the argument. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'however' to connect your sentences and paragraphs more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'coming on social media' and 'give money' are simplistic and lack the precision expected in an academic essay. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'badly affected because of not receiving any customer on the shop'. To achieve a higher band score, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to marketing, consumer behavior, and economic trends, and focus on using words in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the businesses are now on the media', and run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction before attempting more complex structures. Pay close attention to verb tenses, article usage, and punctuation to ensure your writing is clear and grammatically sound. Practicing the use of complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions will also help improve your range.
