Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, the influence of advertising on consumer behaviour has been widely debated. While some argue that it strongly affects purchasing decisions that's why companies give more priorities to new products, others believe that its impact is limited. This essay will discuss both perspectives, and I believe that advertising remains a powerful force in modern society.

Firstly , many businesses and big industries using special types of strategies to attract the consumer or customers towards the new products. People already using their products according to their daily basic needs, they are satisfied and don't feel to change the products because they are ok with that products based on their needs. Nowadays companies focusing on benefits of products and try to distinct from others and trying to show their products unique from other products . For example : 88% people already using Colgate toothpaste to brush the teeth , they not feeling to change because it is good according to needs , but now company launched Colgate plus , product is same and just they change the colour of the product. When they advertising the product they just mention two more benefits like mouth-freshness for 20 hours and shiny white teeth. Customer just wants to try to see the difference even though nothing wrong was the pervious Colgate, so company manage to increase the sale of the new product with new price .

On the other hand , this trend can have the negatives consequence . constantly promoting new products encourages people to buy more products than their actually needs, as a result it leads to wastage sources and money and as well as misleading . Sometime there are minimal differences or may be not in new product.

In conclusion, although new products can encourages innovation and attract consumers by offering new products but it also leads to wasting and overuse of resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize new products and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. However, the development is uneven. The explanation for why companies focus on new products is clear, but the discussion on whether this is positive or negative is underdeveloped. The conclusion mentions innovation but does not fully synthesize the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more balanced, detailed arguments for both the positive and negative aspects, rather than focusing primarily on the marketing strategy itself.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical or repetitive phrasing. For instance, the transition between the explanation of the Colgate example and the conclusion is somewhat abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'they are ok with that products', where the pronoun usage is imprecise. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas, such as 'consumer behaviour', 'innovation', and 'strategies'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'give more priorities' instead of 'prioritize' and 'wastage sources' instead of 'waste of resources'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, particularly the use of 'products' throughout the second paragraph. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('many businesses... using' instead of 'use'), article usage ('the teeth'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'People already using their products... they are satisfied' would be better as a complex sentence. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and reducing these recurring errors will significantly improve your score.
