Student answer (Band 6.0)
Companies focus on showing that their products are new in some way in their ads. It is a positive development. This is because consumers attract to different and unique products.
Businesses depend a lot on advertising their products and if there products are something that is not different then customers do not get attracted enough. Advertising the product in a way that it gives some new features or uniqueness attracts customers. Companies spend a lot of money and energy on the psychology of advertising a product . They try to find some different features about the products even if there are similar products in the market available.
It is a positive development for the benefit of the business. More people get attracted to the advertisement of the product showing it in a new way, more the customer's attention is received . For example, the Porshe microwave showed some new feature of baking on their advertisement. Due to that it got customer's attention and became a popular household multifunctional product. For a very long period of time it was popular. This is shows that advertising a product and focusing on showing its new features gets the it sold.
In conclusion, emphasizing to show that their products are new shows a positive development by gaining the costumers attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying why businesses emphasize novelty and providing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited due to the short length (216 words), which falls below the 250-word requirement. The arguments are somewhat repetitive, and the example provided (a 'Porshe microwave') is unclear and lacks sufficient detail to fully support the point. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more specific, real-world examples and ensure that your arguments are fully explored rather than just stated. The under-length penalty significantly impacts the overall score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'This is because', 'In conclusion'), they are often repetitive or used in a simplistic way. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraphs are quite short and lack internal cohesion. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows logically from one sentence to the next, rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'attracts customers', 'get attracted', and 'new features' are used multiple times, which limits the range. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'emphasizing to show' instead of 'emphasizing that'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise synonyms and collocations related to marketing and consumer behavior. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more sophistication and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'consumers attract to' (should be 'are attracted to'), 'there products' (should be 'their products'), and 'This is shows' (should be 'This shows'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of pronouns. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you achieve a higher band score.
