Student answer (Band 6.5)

Advertising becomes really popular in today's time because of it's creativity and information of various products it provides. Many businesses nowadays use advertisement for their new products and also how they are better and unique from their competitors. In my view, advertising of products to make it like it is a unique and new than others have a more negative development than positive. This essay will briefly explains it's negative development with suitable facts.

In the first paragraph, I will point out some negative developments. Firstly, advertisement of some products which are bad for health is done by the company in creative way that it convince people to buy that particular products because it is a new type of product than other, due to this customers end up buying the product not knowing that it can be harmful in some ways. For example many chips company say that the chip is oil free, healthy but it is full of palm oil and adultery products. So, it can be consider as a negative development.

Furthermore, many skincare and makeup companies through their advertisement encourage people to buy new things because it is cute or useful and due to this factor people overspend their budget in unnecessary expensive item also the packaging it include create lot's of pollution to the environment .For instance popular skincare and beauty brand while launching it new products encourages people of buying it no matter how expensive it is and also how much it damages the earth by making the product.

Conversely, one must not ignore the bright side of advertising the product which is essential in reality it also help company to earn maximum profit and gave economy benefits to the employer. But positive side development is not more than negative development of advertising.

To conclude, advertisement of product is not always bad there are some products which actually benefits the customers but not always and it should be properly research by the people whether the product they are buying are actually worth it or not and should not always buy through the advertisement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: explaining why businesses emphasize 'newness' and providing an opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention health concerns and environmental impact, the explanation of 'why' businesses do this is only briefly touched upon in the introduction. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the psychological or competitive reasons behind this marketing strategy. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and could be more impactful by summarizing your main arguments rather than just giving advice to the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Conversely' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the shift from discussing health to environmental issues in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it's' and 'this factor' which occasionally lack a precise antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'competitors', 'overspend', and 'environmental'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'adultery products' (likely meaning 'adulterated') and 'gave economy benefits'. There are also some spelling and punctuation errors, such as 'it's' used for 'its' and 'lot's' instead of 'lots'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the control over these is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'advertisement... is done', 'many chips company say') and article usage. Some sentences are quite long and become slightly confusing due to punctuation errors or missing prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency, and try to incorporate more varied, error-free complex sentences.
