Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, many company advertise that their product are new improved or different from others. the believe that customer are more interested in buying somethings that looks modern and unique. in my opinion this is a positive developments although it also has a few disadvantages.
The main reason company highlight new features is to attract more customers. in today competitive market many businesses and similar product. Therefore they try to show that their product has batter quality a new design. or advanced technology. this helps them stand out from their competitors and increase sales.
Another reason is that people are naturally curios about new things. many customers believe that the latest product is more useful and more attractive than order ones. for example smartphones companies launch new modals every year with better cameras faster processors and longer battery life. many people are excited to buy the novels version.
I believed this trend mostly poistive because it encourages companies to improve their products . business invest in research and innovation to provide quality which benefits consumers . for instance modren electric cars are more environmentally friendly and have batter safety features than older models.
however there are some negative aspects somethings companies make very small changes but advertise them as completly new. this can encourages people to spend manay unnecessarily and creates more electronic waste therefore customers should think carefully before buying every new product.
in conclusion companies emphasize that their products are new to attract customers ans positive although this may sometimes lead to unnecessary spendings i believe is is a generally a positive developments because it encourages innovation and gives coustamers better choices

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing reasons for the emphasis on 'newness' and offering a balanced opinion on whether this is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of innovation in electric cars and the concern regarding electronic waste. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why companies highlight new features could be expanded with more depth regarding consumer psychology or market saturation. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more detailed elaboration to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for advertising to the evaluation of the trend. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or missing. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt, and there are instances where punctuation errors (such as missing full stops or incorrect capitalization) disrupt the flow of ideas. While the paragraphing is functional, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovation', 'competitors', and 'environmentally friendly'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'batter' instead of 'better', 'curios' instead of 'curious', 'modals' instead of 'models', 'poistive' instead of 'positive', 'coustamers' instead of 'customers'). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and aim for a wider range of collocations to express ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many company advertise', 'product are'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, particularly with sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammar and punctuation, and ensure that complex structures are used with greater accuracy.
